Las Vegas Houses for Sale > Buying a Home Las Vegas

Things to Consider When Buying a
Home, Las Vegas, Henderson, or Summerlin

Whether You're New to the Area Or You've Been Here Awhile, If You
Are Looking to Buy Real Estate, Las Vegas Offers Plenty of Choices

Catherine and Daniel Compton wanted a place of their own to call home. You know to buy real estate? Las Vegas offered an array of options from style of home to location.

They had half heartedly looked at a townhouse for sale in Las Vegas last year. And then briefly explored a couple of lease to buy homes in Las Vegas. But now they were totally serious about buying a home. Las Vegas was a boom town and they wanted to remain a part of it.

Catherine especially wanted a neighborhood where they fit in. So they approached their home search in a methodical manner coming up with "The List". Here's the things they looked for. You might find it helpful too.

If traffic is a concern (and traffic congestion is often an issue) test the route to work during rush hour to see if it will really only take 25 minutes to get downtown or not. They ruled out a couple of promising houses by doing this. Deciding it wasn't worth the aggravation.

Walk the streets. What do you find? Do other residents smile and wave or ignore you like a dirty shirt?

Are your neighbors mostly employed, retired, or what?

What happens to the streets when it rains hard? Doesn't happen often in the valley, but when it does, does the street flood or do the sewers keep up?

House Hunting Tip: A digital camera or camera phone can
help you keep the properties straight. A quick snap shot
will likely jog your memory. Often a glimpse of the photo
will remind you the driveway is going to need to work.

Are houses maintained, is any grass green and cut, is there suitable landscaping?

Is one house the neighborhood hang out for all the kids? Complete with portable basketball hoop, cars coming and going, unwanted musical entertainment provided whether you want it or not etc. Is that house next to the one you're considering buying?

Those are just some things to consider when buying a home, Las Vegas, in Henderson or over in Summerlin. It’s especially important to compile your criteria before even glancing at any Las Vegas new homes list!
