Mackenzie and Garrett Caulkins were than just a bit nervous. The Vegas transplants from Louisville were losing sleep over the value of their condo.

"When we moved here we found the Las Vegas home real estate markets to be quite diverse. With everything from single family homes to all kinds of condos (even down town Las Vegas condos) to pricey lake front and golf property," Mackenzie reported. "We decided to get our feet wet with a condo," she went on. "No not one of those luxury condos Las Vegas is famous for. And not one of the down town Las Vegas condos either. Too noisy and touristy for us." "But we did notice the number of new condos in Las Vegas. And thought 'What the heck. Why not get a new one? Even if there were many available that were only a few years old." |
“Now,” Garrett pointed out, “it seems the boom in condo sales was due in part to investors looking for property to use as Las Vegas condo rentals. And speculators who were driving up the price of condos for sale in the areaa. Buying now in hopes of making a killing tomorrow. Or at most maybe months.”
"That and what were once apartments that may be converting over to condos - flooding the market."
Mrs Caulkins added, "Too much of this kind of stuff and the bottom can fall out. Taking the value of our condo with it."
"We've found Las Vegas to be a great place to live. It isn't always beastly hot. Plus there's never a dull moment. But maybe buying one of the down town Las Vegas condos would have insulated us from any price shock that may be coming here."
